Our hometown Davidson Wildcats are ready to start this momentous 2014 season against new Atlantic 10 Conference opponents. With the exception of football and wrestling, all of Davidson’s sports teams transitioned to the Atlantic 10 Conference as of July 1, 2014. We’re hoping the change increases the exposure of Davidson college athletics on the national stage. In the Atlantic 10 Conference, Davidson will face University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Fordham University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, La Salle University, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Rhode Island, the University of Richmond, St. Bonaventure University, Saint Joseph’s University, Saint Louis University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. The Davidson College wrestling team will remain with the Southern Conference and the football program will continue its affiliation with the Pioneer Football League.
The Davidson College football team is ready for another challenging season against their Pioneer Football League opponents. The team is excited to debut new branding, uniforms, helmets and state-of-the-art on-field equipment. Davidson has a young team this year, but the seniors are taking the lead with the motto “Don’t Quit.” The Davidson football season kicks off at home against College of Faith – Charlotte on August 30 at 7:00 pm.
The Davidson College Men’s Soccer Team is already off to a great start for its 2014 season. The team was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll and freshman Matt Reinikka was named to the all-rookie team. The Wildcats hosted College of Charleston and Charlotte for pre-season exhibition games and look forward to challenging Cal Poly in the first game of the season on August 29.
The Davidson College Women’s Volleyball Team is traveling to the College of Charleston Invitational for opening weekend to compete against Charleston, Kent State and Mercer. The third weekend of the season, the Wildcats will host all North Carolina teams for the Wildcat Classic.
