Summit Coffee: Where the locals go for coffee and live music

Starbucks can’t hold a flame to sitting in a locally owned coffee shop full of spirited patrons whose orders are known before they walk in the door and greet one another with smiles and steaming drinks. Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson is one of those comforting spots where people will quickly know your name by way of their smooth southern charm, in-house roasted coffee, and an atmosphere that feels like home. As a Main Street staple among locals and visitors alike, you’re likely to swing by Summit Coffee either for your midday coffee kick, or to catch some live music, craft beer and delicious locally sourced food.

About Summit Coffee

Located in a historic, century-old building in downtown Davidson, Summit Coffee has been a beloved establishment since 1998. They have built their business on great coffee and the character of devoted people. The business has been continually growing since opening, and in 2013 they opened their second retail location in an old Davidson College fraternity house. Known as The Outpost, they serve not only their reputable craft coffee but also an extensive menu made with fresh local ingredients, beer, and smoothies.

The 2015 addition to Summit Coffee is their newly minted Roastery, which includes a training center and cupping lab so that all of their baristas can have a greater understanding of the craft beverage they are serving. Now roasting beans from small farms around the world on two San Francisco roasters, they are sourcing coffees from Peru and a few Indonesian varieties, they not only brew them in the store, but sell whole beans both there and online. In fact, their coffee is so good, it’s what we serve our guests here at Davidson Village Inn!

Summit Events

Summit Coffee holds multiple weekly events based in common community interests. Monday is Trivia Night while every Tuesday the Summit Run Club meets up for a jog and camaraderie at the shop afterward. On Tuesdays, local talent comes out for Open Mic Night, and Fridays are now for the Summer Beer Series, featuring different regional breweries each week on the back patio.

Aside from the regular events are performances that happen on site at least once a week. For the remainder of this month, guests can look forward to Rusty Knox on June 26th, and Rick Spreitzer and the Antique Babies on the 27th. Check their website soon to view the July calendar of events, which is sure to be full of great acts from far and wide.

Team Summit Coffee Foundation

This Davidson, North Carolina nonprofit was established to support the Summit Twilight Racing Series, which began in 2011 as a way to raise money for global change through athletic events and civic engagement. Hosting multiple racing events throughout the year, proceeds go to their charitable partners locally and around the word, and the events are just plain fun! The most recent event took place last weekend and offered multiple running, biking and yoga options, and an afterparty with live music at Summit Coffee.

Summit Coffee is not only a great place to hang out for a coffee, but it is also one of the places to go in town for entertainment and great community events. If you’re visiting Davidson soon and looking for other things to do in the area, check out this free vacation guide.
