Celebrate Homecoming!

This year’s homecoming festivities will take place September 15th-16th.  The Davidson Wildcats will play the Guilford Quakers at 7:00 pm on September 16th.  Homecoming is a great opportunity to interact with fellow alumni and also enjoy Homecoming with other Davidson fans. There will also be a hospitality event at the tailgate area where you will be able to meet Alumni and grab Davidson gear.

Tailgate!

There’s no better way to get pumped up for the big game than with a tailgate right on campus. Each home game, Wildcat fans set up right next to the stadium on the Davidson campus. Tailgating is a fun way to enjoy friends and family and eat some delicious tailgating food like wings or burgers. Probably your best idea is to grab some food from the great restaurants on Davidson’s Main Street. Because tailgating takes place right next to the stadium, fans will be able to watch the Davidson team warm up!

Watch online!

Because not everyone can get to each game, Davidson has made it easy to watch the games online. You can easily watch from the comfort of your home or room with the Davidson All-Access page.  Just click on the game, hit watch, and you’ll see the action happening live.

Get your Wildcats gear!

If you want to show your Wildcat Pride from head to toe, head over to the Davidson College Store on Main Street.  Located right across from Davidson campus, the store offers clothes and also accessories you’ll need for the big game.  The Davidson College Store is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and closed on Sundays.

Davidson will play their first game on September 2nd at 7:00 pm against Brevard at home. Check out the entire schedule so you won’t miss a game!

Lake-Norman-biking-trails.jpgWe are so lucky here in Davidson to have access to beautiful Lake Norman. Of all the activities to experience in the area, biking is one where there are so many places to choose from. No matter if you are a first-time rider or are experienced on the trails, there are quite a few Lake Norman biking trails out there. Let us help you find out where to ride in the Lake Norman area.

If you will be traveling to the Davidson area for the first time, be sure to download our Davidson, North Carolina Vacation Guide first thing! This guide is not only free but also packed with great information for first-time visitors. The guide is easy to acquire and shows up in your inbox.

Lake Norman State Park is home to over 30 miles of a trail system known as Itusi. Because many of these trails intertwine, you can make your ride short or add an extension on by biking onto another trail. An interesting fact about many of these trails is that the trails reverse every other year. As a result, the trails go clockwise on even years and counter clockwise on odd years. If you happen to visit a park in an odd year, make sure you visit again the next year so you can ride in a completely different direction!

Here’s our list of 8 of the best Lake Norman Biking Trails!

Hawk Loop

The Hawk Loop in Lake Norman State Park is a 2.7-mile single track moderate trail. The great thing about the trail is that you can easily access Hicks Creek Loop and Norwood Loop to extend your ride.

Monbo

The 6-mile loop of the Monbo trail is easy and great for beginners. The twists and turns on this trail keep riders coming back for more. Many riders prefer this trail going in the clockwise direction but it is worth a ride to see for yourself.

Norwood Loop

The Norwood Loop is a 3.3-mile trail with a pump jump built in. The loop, which can be accessed off the Hawk Loop, reverses every year like the Monbo trail and offers riders great views of the lake.

Laurel Loop

One of the longest of the trails in the park is the Laurel Loop. This intermediate, 9.75-mile loop offers bikers steep climbs and some climbing. Other trails that can be accessed from this trail are the Fallstown Loop and Fox Loop.

Hicks Creek Loop

Riders looking for a little bit of a challenge will enjoy the Hicks Creek Loop. This flowy trail is easy for the most part but also has an incline at the beginning. The 2nd half of the loop is a smoother ride but has tight turns.

Fallstown Loop

The Fallstown Loop is a great addition to the Wildlife Loop. This new trail, which opened in 2012, is 1.25 miles in length. Depending on the direction the trail is going that specific year, you may experience some uphill climbs along the route.

Fox Loop

Another newer trail to the park is the Fox Loop. This 2.5-mile trail can be found off of the Wildlife Loop.  Bikers love this area because of its wooded and rugged terrain.

Wildlife Loop

The Wildlife Loop is accessible through Laurel Loop and offers experienced riders a half pipe. The trail runs for 4.25 miles and is rated as intermediate.

After your ride, come and relax at our beautiful B&B!

While you are visiting the Lake Norman region, look no further than a stay with us right here at the Davidson Village Inn. When booking your reservation, be sure to ask us about our Pedal Around Davidson package. Your stay will include one night in our Queen Room with a half day bike rental from our friends at the Spirited Cyclist. The Davidson Greenway is a great place to ride in addition to the other Lake Norman trails. Once you return from your ride, we’ll have a few microbrews waiting for you to help you cool down. Finally, each day at the Inn we provide our guests with a complimentary gourmet breakfast buffet. Finally, we would love for you to experience a restful stay in our charming town. Once you arrive in the Uwharrie National Forest, the views are simply breathtaking. The area is home to over 50 miles of trails. The Uwharrie National Forest trail map is a great place to begin if you’re looking to hit the trails. Hikers looking for a challenge should check out the Dutchman’s Creek Trail. With steep inclines and a moderate terrain, this 18.4-mile loop is quite the challenge. Dogs are welcome on a leash on this trail. Another great trail is the singletrack, 20-mile Uwharrie National Recreation Trail. The trail is hilly with lots of streams to pass by. If you want a shorter hike, there are 3 trailheads that can be used to access the trail.

The water recreation at the Uwharrie National Forest ranges from swimming and fishing to hunting for a nugget of gold. The Uwharrie National Forest is close to the original site where gold was first found in the US. Find your way to Badin Lake Recreation Area for hours of fun splashing around in the water. Bring a picnic as there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy a picnic lunch. During your visit to the recreation area, there are opportunities to see boaters, bikers, horses, hikers, campers, and swimmers.

A trip to the Uwharrie National Forest is close enough for a day trip!

Carowinds.jpgIf you’re asking yourself, what am I going to do while the kids are out of school this summer? Look no further than Charlotte’s own amusement park: Carowinds. Carowinds Amusement Park has been welcoming visitors through their gates since its opening back in 1973. You can find Carowinds off of Interstate 77 at the NC/SC border. The park is a great place to spend the day as they are home to roller coasters, family rides, thrill rides and rides made just for kids. You’ll even find a huge waterpark called Carolina Harbor to cool off during those hot summer days.

What can I look forward to at Carowinds Amusement Park?

If you are looking for a thrill, find your way to the Thrill Zone. This area of the park is home to rides like the Ripcord, Drop Tower, Scream Weaver, and the Slingshot. One of the park’s newest thrill rides is the Fury 325. It is known as the 5th tallest coaster in the world and reaches speeds up to 95 mph.

Kids have a place to call their own at Carowinds known as Planet Snoopy. Kids’ rides include the Flying Ace Balloon Race, Peanuts Pirates, Lucy’s Crabbie Cabbie, Woodstock Gliders, and Snoopy’s Junction. You might even catch a Peanuts character or two walking around to meet.

Carowinds is home to more than just fun rides. There are plenty of shows all over the park sure to keep you entertained. The Catawba Creek Duo, Charlie Brown’s Hoedown, Cirque Imagine, Decades Live, and Luminate! Party in TWO States are acts to look out for! Grab a bite to eat and take a breather while watching some of these great performers.

Speaking of food, there is definitely no shortage of good eats to be found during your visit. Favorites like funnel cakes, Auntie Anne’s pretzels, Chick Fil A, Cinnabon, Sweet Frog’s, and Dippin Dots are all good choices. But if you are looking for something more, there are other great places to grab a bite like Burrito Café, Chickie & Pete’s Sports Grill, Harmony Hall Marketplace and Papa Luigi’s.

Events are held at the park throughout the year!

hello-sailor-restaurant-cornelius.jpgThis summer’s most anticipated newest Lake Norman hotspot is Hello, Sailor. Though an opening date has yet to be announced, we are counting down the days to this new Cornelius restaurant. There is no denying that Joe and Katy Kindred are amazing at what they do. We love Kindred Davidson which has been open since 2015 and is also within walking distance of Davidson Village Inn. We cannot wait to be toasting cocktails at their newest concept Hello, Sailor restaurant in Cornelius this fall.

Have dinner or relax with a drink at Hello, Sailor!

Hello, Sailor will take over the former Rusty Rudder location in Cornelius. The location is situated on the shores of Lake Norman so you are sure to enjoy beautiful views and sunsets with your dinner. The 4,000 square foot space will feature inside seating for 70 guests and multi-level decks outside on sunny days. Hello, Sailor will also feature 20 boat slips for an upfront parking spot for those arriving by boat.

Inspired by a nautical tattoo, Hello, Sailor is the perfect name for this waterfront location. With this fun name, comes a unique drink and dinner menu. The Kindred’s are going for a modern, upscale fish camp vibe for their new space. The menu, like Kindred Davidson, will feature local, quality ingredients and items like fresh seafood, burgers, ribs, and sandwiches like prime rib. The Kindred children are even getting in on the menu making and adding the perfect chicken tenders to the kid’s menu.

Sticking with the fun and funky vibe, the tiki bar outside will offer guests frozen mixed drinks, beer on tap and wine by the bottle and glass. When it comes to the inside of Hello, Sailor, Katy is looking to keep things modern, with fun bright colors and a very funky Palm Springs atmosphere.

Eater.com has named Hello, Sailor as one of “the most anticipated restaurant openings of 2017.” The goal of Hello, Sailor is to be a place for everyone, not just the lake crowd. Being a family of 5 themselves, the Kindred’s welcome families with kids to come out and enjoy dinner at their new restaurant. Joe and Katy knew they wanted a place that all types of patrons would enjoy year round.

After dinner and drinks, return at the end of the day to our beautiful Inn!

We love the summer months here in North Carolina. And we are lucky enough to be a part of the Lake Norman community. There are many Lake Norman activities to keep you busy during your getaway. While you’re in town, we would love to be your home away from home here at Davidson Village Inn. We are home to 18 rooms with 5 different room types. Each morning begins with a complimentary gourmet breakfast complete with everything you’ll need for a full day out exploring.
