Explore These Outstanding Lake Norman Hiking Trails

Alder Trail

Lake Norman State Park offers over 30 miles of single-track trails. One trail you should definitely check out is the Alder Trail. This is one of the park’s oldest trails and is only 0.8 miles round trip. The natural surface trail, which is open year-round, follows the lake, offering beautiful Lake Norman views. The walk is rated easy so any skill level will be able to hike the trail. Dogs are welcome on the trail as well! This is one of the best trails offered in the area.

Lake Shore Trail

Also found in Lake Norman State Park is the Lake Shore Trail. No need to watch out for bikers on this trail as it is for hikers only. The natural surface of the trail is easy and runs 6.2 miles round trip. You will love the amazing views of the lake along this trail and the many opportunities for bird watching.

Latta Plantation

Huntersville, NC is home to historic Latta Plantation which offers over 16 miles of trails. Just 2.5 miles of those trails are dedicated to hikers only. The Beechwood Trail at Latta Plantation is a moderate 1-mile loop. Hikers will see a variety of trees and pass by the largest American Beech trees in the preserve. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the trails but must be kept on a leash at all times.

Jetton Park

Jetton Park is a park in Cornelius, NC, that sits right on Lake Norman. In addition to a playground, tennis courts and small beach area, Jetton Park is home to 1.5 miles of walking trails. All skill levels will enjoy the trails because they are shaded and paved. The trails can be accessed year-round and dogs are welcome on a leash.

Lake Norman Greenway

Whether you like walking, mountain biking, or running, the Lake Norman area has a series of greenways ideal for an afternoon adventure. Davidson has been named a bike-friendly community and there’s no better place for a ride than the Kincaid Trail. This trail, which runs for 3 miles, starts at the end of South Street and is great for walking or biking. The greenways are free to use and open from sunup to sundown.
