Airport Overlook
At the Charlotte Douglas Airport overlook, you can watch airplanes while having a picnic. The overlook has many shade trees, picnic tables, and benches for the perfect afternoon. You can spend five minutes watching one landing, or a whole day at the overlook. This is the perfect little hide away most people don’t think about. Grab a blanket and some sandwiches to enjoy your day at the airport overlook.
Romare Bearden Park
Located on 5.4 acres, Romare Bearden Park has an amazing panoramic view of downtown Charlotte. Across the street from BB&T Ballpark, the park offers a variety of events and programs all year long. Named after a Charlotte native artist, Romare Bearden, the park opened to the public in 2013.
McAlpine Creek Park
For a country view, visit McAlpine Creek Park. Resting on more than 110 acres, this park has something for everyone. Spend a day fishing from the pier or enjoy the Parks and Recreation Department’s first off-leash dog park. McAlpine Creek Park has a little bit of everything.
Ramsey Creek Park
The 43-acre park in Cornelius is where visitors can enjoy the lake via boats, nature trails or fishing piers. Picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, dog park and a playground are also available.
Lake Norman
At 34 miles long with 520 miles of shoreline, Lake Norman is the largest man-made lake in the Carolinas, providing endless fun to visitors and residents alike. The lake offers plenty of activities including boating, kayaking, water skiing, wake boarding, rowing, fishing, and sailing. Several public parks offer access to the lake as well as hiking and biking paths, picnic areas, and other facilities.
Davidson College
The town of Davidson is very much shaped by Davidson College and its campus, where century-old trees and brick buildings blend with state-of-the-art technology and top notch facilities. It’s primary purpose is to assist students in developing humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service.Since its establishment in 1837, Davidson College is consistently regarded as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. Downtown Davidson
Downtown Davidson represents the quintessential small town. It’s a true college town with an abundance of charm. And there’s no shortage of things to do in the Historic Downtown area of town. With a multitude of shops, wide sidewalks, a community library and flowers everywhere, exploring downtown is a great way to spend an afternoon.
